Kharkov, Col. Glantz has managed to weave his own account of the disastrous Soviet offensive together with a frank staff history of the operation produced by the Soviet Army in the early 1950s. Although the integration of the materials is not completely seamless, the approach works, given Col. Glantz’ extraordinary mastery of the material. There’s a lot here, including mini-biographies of most of the Soviet commanders, and annotated orders-of-battle, as well as discussions of the actual course of operations. A valuable book for anyone interested in the Eastern Front.
