Attrition: U.S. Navy Losses Another 11 Ships

Archives

March 27, 2012:  The U.S. Navy is aging and older ships have to be retired. Next year six Perry class frigates (all from the early 1980s), the first nuclear powered carrier CVN (now 51 years old), and four Ticonderoga class cruisers (from the early 1990s) will be decommissioned.

The Perrys will have some equipment removed and be transferred to allied countries. The rest will be dismantled (scrapped).
