Having seen the logistical demands of the Timor operation, the Australian Defense Force plans to accelerate plans to buy a bulk fuel distribution system and a bulk water purification system. The fuel system will comprise barges carrying 31,000 liters or 85,000 liters of fuel. The water purification equipment will be truck mounted and able to produce drinkable water from any stream or the ocean itself. The Australians plan to initially buy enough systems to provide water for a battalion and then buy enough more to supply an entire brigade. Part of the system will include 3,600-liter tanks mounted on trucks and portable storage tanks of 1,800 liters.--Stephen V Cole
