Taiwan has developed a new Army rifle that is clearly a variant of the M16, the T86. The layout is conventional, with the magazine forward of the trigger group. The T86 has a telescoping stock, which reduces the overall length from 880mm to 800mm. It weighs 3.17kg empty, and uses the same ammunition and magazines as the M16A1. It can mount a variety of telescopic or night sights, and can mount the T85 under-barrel 40mm grenade launcher.--Stephen V Cole
