A Few Good Bayonets- The US Marine Corps still pays attention to the quality of the bayonets it issues. Unable to find an American manufacturer that it meet exacting Marine Corps standards, the marines turned to Germany, where they found a suitable supplier. Marine bayonets are carefully designed and tested as they are considered combat weapons. Marines are trained to use the bayonet in hand-to-hand combat, both as a knife and as a bayonet on the end of a rifle. Marine recruits are bombarded with the many tales of marines, in a desperate situation, fixing bayonets and charging the enemy (and often winning the battle.)
