The Army is developing a new small unmanned helicopter (the A-160 built by Frontier Systems) as a potential new reconnaissance platform. The A-160 (which will fly for the first time in a few months) is designed to operate for 30+ hours at 15,000 feet (beyond the range of man-portable anti-aircraft weapons) and carry 225kg of recon systems and sensors. Some of the sensor packages could include a synthetic aperture radar with moving target indication, electro-optical (infrared), foliage-penetrating radar, and electronic eavesdropping.--Stephen V Cole
