Information Warfare: October 12, 2001

Archives

One of the earliest casualties of the War on Terrorism were pro-Taliban and related websites. The normal content has been replaced, again and again, with wanted posters for Osama Bin Laden, and similar visuals. Also used were denial of service attacks/ Some of these sites have shut down, and others have been booted off the net by their service provider. Other hackers have gone further, in one case hacking into a Sudan bank, finding information about bin Laden bank accounts and sending the information to the FBI. This hack was publicly announced, but other similar ones are suspected. There have been no reports of any of these hackers being prosecuted, even though the hackers admit that what they have done is illegal. This particular part of the war will probably go on, and grow in intensity.
