The Army is looking for more corporals to serve as recruiters. Four hundred slots for recruiting sergeants have been allocated for corporals, but a third of these are going begging. The program is intended to accomplish two goals. One is to ease up the shortage of sergeants in the troop units, and the other is to put junior soldiers back into their own home towns. It is felt that these younger corporals might better connect with the youth the Army wants to recruit.--Stephen V Cole
