Norway plans to consolidate its Ministry of Defense and Defense Staff in a new headquarters facility at Jaattaa in southern Norway. The military wanted the consolidated HQ to be at Bodo in northern Norway as this would be more likely to actually be useful in a conflict. The Norwegian government has selected Jaattaa partly due to the climate and partly due to the slight chance that NATO might establish one of its new joint corps HQs there. However small the chances NATO would put a new HQ in Jaattaa, they are far higher than the odds of placing one at Bodo.--Stephen V Cole
