The Multi-National
Security Transition Command in Iraq is buying another sixty armored SUVs.
Adding armor to SUVs creates a vehicle weighing over three tons, and requires
upgraded brakes and suspension. These vehicles stop 7.62mm rifle and
machine-gun bullets, and provide protection from explosions. There are
thousands of these vehicles in Iraq, as many NGOs and civilians use them. They
typically cost $100,000-150,000 each.
