The war in Iraq is expensive in terms of payroll, as well as ammo, weapons and other supplies. For example, in the next year, the U.S. Army plans to spend $13.8 billion on additional pay for troops involved in Iraq operations. Most of this money goes to full time pay for reservists, and special pay for those serving overseas and in a combat zone. In addition, temporarily increasing its personnel strength, from 482,000 to 507,000, will cost another $1.5 billion next year.
