The US plans to replace its current MILSTAR communications satellite network with the new Advanced Extremely High Frequency satellites starting in 2006. The US is inviting its NATO allies to use the system (and pay for part of its development and launch) and may have to increase the total number of satellites in order to accommodate their message traffic. --Stephen V Cole
