The Russian Aviation and Space Agency and the Australian Asian Pacific Space Center have agreed to jointly develop a plan to launch satellites from Christmas Island (an Australian island on the equator, where the spin of the Earth would give the biggest boost to a satellite launch) using a new booster design. The new Aurora booster rocket would be built from the lower core of the Soyuz booster and a new Corvette upper stage developed by Energia.--Stephen V Cole
