The US Navy has given a passing grade to the SLAM-ER missile (Stand-off Land Attack Missile Expanded Response), a key victory for Boeing as this clears the way to produce hundreds of the $450,000 missile (a variant of Tomahawk). Initial tests were disappointing (five hits out of eleven shots) but the missile scored four hits in four shots in a recent test series. --Stephen V Cole
