The British destroyer HMS Nottingham ran onto rocks off Australia last July, and it will cost a lot to get the ship combat ready again. It cost nearly five million dollars to move the ship back to Britain on a salvage ship. It will cost another $35 million to repair the damage to the hull and shipboard equipment. The destroyer's crew screwed up when they hit a charted rock that ripped a 160 foot gash in the hull. The 22,700 ton Salvage ship Swan can carry a damaged ship of up to 25,000 tons on it's semi-submerged deck.
