November 24, 2009: The U.S. has established a special brigade, with 825 personnel, to train 6,000 military advisors a year. Based in Ft. Polk, Louisiana, the unit contains many Iraqis and Afghans to assist in the training. This effort is in support of a program that will add several hundred military advisors (including 48 majors lieutenant colonels, and colonels) to each combat brigade in Afghanistan and Iraq. This incorporates the military advisor function with the combat units and enables tighter coordination with military and police units from the host country.
