Fighting continues in and around Khanabad, a key town on the road to Takhar province. 

September 28; Civilians in Takhar province, nervous about the fighting to the south around Khanabad, are beginning to flee across the border to Tajikistan. Most of the panic was in the provincial capital of Taloqan, with a population of some 100,000 people.  The Taliban have been bombing Taloqan for the last four days, killing at least 31 and injuring many more.
