A two-month UN field investigation has shown that the sanctions imposed on the Taliban government of Afghanistan in Nov 99 (in a bid to force them to hand over Osama bin Laden) have had no effect on the government but have increased the suffering of the people. Field investigators found no one inside Afghanistan who supported further sanctions.--Stephen V Cole
