The Taliban launched a new offensive near the Tajik border, to push the Northern Alliance from one of their few remaining supply routes from Tajikistan. This right after the Taliban took the nearby town of Namakaab from the Northern Alliance. Six Northern Alliance commanders and 200 of their followers also went over to the Taliban.
