Taliban in a village south of Kabul burned down a girls school and warned local parents against sending their daughters to school. The Taliban oppose education for girls or women working outside the home. Taliban groups throughout rural southern Afghanistan have been anonymously leaving threatening letters in villages where schools for girls have opened. Some such schools have been destroyed by arsonists in the night. The Taliban are still afraid to come out in the open, but they are not afraid of using threats and violence to get their way.
