So far this year, rebel violence has killed 800 people, including 380 rebels. The rebel tactics remain the same, to massacre families they feel are providing information to the government, or allowing their sons to serve in the army. This violence has the perverse effect of causing some young men to join the rebels. The main rebel group, the GIA, says they have recruited 130 more men in the last few weeks, even as they murder the neighbors of some of these young men.
