Spanish police announced the arrest of two Algerian men with alleged ties to Al Qaeda. The two men, arrested in two southeastern cities and accused of falsifying documents (including passports), have links to Ramzi Binalshibh, a Yemeni who was allegedly a key planner of the September 11th attacks.

Dozens of protesters rioted around 500 kilometers south of Algeria's capital, were angry that candidates from Algiers were favored over local people for jobs in the oil sector. Riots are a regular occurrence, over problems like inadequate water, electricity supplies of housing, as well as unemployment. Nearly one third of the Algerian work force are without jobs, so jobs in the oil and natural gas sector (especially with foreign firms) are coveted for their good pay and benefits. - Adam Geibel
