The UNITA guerrilla organization claimed the capture of three villages and killed 163 government troops this month. The captured villages are Vila-do-Dongo (Huila province), Mukinda (Lunda-Sul province), and Kapola (Kwanza-Sul province). UNITA issued the statement from its headquarters in Bailundo.
Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos called for strengthening the national army in the face of growing UNITA strength.
