Angola claimed 400 UNITA guerrillas surrendered near the south Angolan town of Cuangar. Observers say the Angolan government continues to pursue a vigorous offensive. The next objective is Calai, a town on the Namibian border. UNITA has used Calai as a logistics center and as a market to trade diamonds, timber, and ivory with Namibian smugglers.

Zambia has indicted the editor and 11 reporters from THE POST for espionage after they published an article saying that the Army was so poorly trained and equipped that it could not defend the country from an invasion by Angola.--Stephen V Cole
