Turkish security police now say that Turkish Hizbullah may be responsible for 484 murders committed from 1991 to 1999. The Turkish authorities have been sifting through new evidence and intelligence gathered in the last two months, but particularly after the January 17th shootout in Istanbul (see StrategyPage of January 20) that left Hizbullah leader Huseyin Velioglu dead. Turkish Hizbullah is implicated in 18 bomb attacks, 14 kidnappings, and 32 "armed attacks" (which includes shootings and robberies) in the same period. Most of the attacks occurred in Turkey's southeastern provinces, where Kurds predominate.
