New Croatian president Stipe Mesic has made it clear that his new center-left coalition is rejecting one of the Tudjmanite's key ultra-nationalist goals, the absorption of Croat-occupied areas of Bosnia into a "greater Croatian state." The new Croat government intends to provide Bosnian Croats with educational and cultural support - and possibly some form of social security-type aid. Military aid, however, is out. Croat government sources now say that the Tudjman government plowed around $100 million a year into military aid for Bosnian Croats. Much of that aid, however, may not have gone into weapons. The same sources say graft and corruption reduced much of the military aid. What does this mean? Croat separatists in Bosnia won't last long without the Zagreb lifeline.
