Macedonia and Taiwan signed a bilateral agreement on military cooperation. Macedonia established diplomatic relations with Taiwan in January 1999. As a direct result of Macedonia establishing relations with Taiwan, China (Peoples Republic China, PRC) vetoed the renewal of a UN mandate for peacekeeping forces in Macedonia. Serbia has close relations with the PRC.
