Greece has now received the "best and final" bids for 246 new Main Battle Tanks, 24 armored recovery vehicles, and 12 armored bridge launcher vehicles. A decision is due in the second quarter of this year. The four lowest bidders are (from lowest to highest) the US M1A2, French Leclerc, the British Challenger 2E, and the German Leopard-2A5. The bidders are now scrambling to offer more offset packages, financing terms, and other incentives. The M1A2 offered to Greece does not have the depleted uranium armor package. While all of the tanks use 120mm cannon and all but the Germans use depleted uranium penetrating rods, the Greeks will be using tungsten ammunition made in Germany in whichever tank they buy.--Stephen V Cole
