The EU is flexing peacekeeping muscles. Well, sort of. The EUs first police mission is now up and running in Bosnia. The EU Police Mission (EUPM) has 512 police officers (422 from EU countries, with another 90 drawn from other nations) deployed in Bosnia to train Bosnian police. The EU is taking over from the UN International Police Task Force (IPTF) in Bosnia. This EU foreign deployment is the first defense and police mission to operate under the auspices of the Nice Treatys European Security and Defense Policy agreement.
