On January 4 Tahir Zemaj, former commanders of the Armed Forces of the Kosovo Republic (FARK), a Kosovar Albanian splinter faction and sometimes rival of the KLA, was murdered in the Kosovo town of Pec. Zemaj had served as a witness against five former KLA members who were convicted of murdering former FARK members. On January 9 around 2,000 Kosovars participated in a protest march in Pristina. The crowd protested Zemajs murder and the continuing political violence in Kosovo. An LDK leader insisted Zemajs murder was politically motivated. as of January 9 no arrests had been made in connection with Zemajs murder. Once again it appears the KLA is killing Kosovar Albanian moderates.
