Six former Soviet republics have reached an agreement to form a Joint Rapid Deployment Force to oppose foreign aggression and religious-based insurgency. The six nations involved are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikhistan. Belarus has agreed to provide "special surveillance equipment" to Kyrgyzstan in order to help it resist Islamic fundamentalist insurgencies.--Stephen V Cole
