The US has agreed to provide long term security for Uzbekistan (against future Afghan attacks) and in return American troops may operate from Uzbekistan territory. Meanwhile, relief aid is being sent to Tajikistan, where a million people are in danger of starvation because of a severe drought. More US troops have arrived in Tajikistan to prepare for the movement of more US aircraft and troops into the country.
