Uzbekistan has arranged for the US to remove and destroy military grade Anthrax left behind by the Russians when the Soviet Union fell apart in 1991. The Anthrax was stored on an island in the Aral sea (a large lake that is drying up from excessive use of the water for irrigation.) The Soviets had a major bio-warfare research facility in Uzbekistan, which shut down when the Soviet Union ceased to exist.
