 In the capital, the presidential guard prevented a rebellion by an army unit that was under investigation for corruption. The government has discovered an infantry battalion where the officers had nearly a hundred "ghost soldiers" (men who did not exist, and the officers collected their pay). Over a hundred officers and troops were involved in the scam, and they tried to kill the president when it was apparent that their racket was exposed.
