President Clinton has sent a bill to Congress to provide permanent Most Favored Nation trade status to China. Approval in the Senate is considered a given, but the vote in the House will be very close. Aerospace industry panels note that China bought $4 billion worth of aviation and space items from the US during 1998, and the US expects to sell the Chinese 1,800 civilian aircraft through 2020.--Stephen V Cole
