China is training "air police" who will, this Summer, begin traveling on all Chinese airline passenger flights. Meanwhile, the former Ukrainian (former Soviet Union) aircraft carrier Varyag has arrived in China for conversion to a floating hotel/casino. There have been persistent rumors that the 306 meter long Varyag will actually be refurbished as China's first aircraft carrier. China bought the ship (which lacks engines or much equipment) for $20 million in 1998 and spent $5 million to have it towed to China.
