AUC rebels are demanding immunity from extradition to the US for their cooperation with drug cartels. Like all Colombian rebels, the AUC provided security for drug gangs in order to fund their main occupation; fighting left wing rebels. This made the AUC very unpopular among leftist politicians in Europe and the United States. But as a result of this hostility, AUC got put on lists of international terrorists. This despite the fact that, unlike the leftist rebels in Colombia, AUC did not attack Americans or indulge in foreign adventures. Foreign leftists are also upset because AUC has been more willing to disarm and make peace. The leftist rebels have, instead, increased their violence against the government. This has embarrassed the foreign leftists who long supported FARC and ELN, but not to the point where they would cut AUC some slack. Politics is politics.
