 The government agreed to negotiate a prisoner swap with FARC, and refused an AUC proposal that surrendering rebels might get jobs in the army. In the meantime, the army is making steady progress finding and destroying rebel camps, and cutting land routes used for moving rebels supplies, and drugs out of the mountains. The success against the drug cartels has resulted in a revival of the economy, which grew 3.7 percent last year and is growing at about a 3.8 percent rate this year.
