FARC is trying to interfere with the demobilization of the AUC militias. FARC gunmen have begun attacking the demobilization areas. AUC, often called "right-wing", was formed over a decade ago by rural landowners, to fight the terrorism of local FARC rebels (often described as "leftist"). Both FARC and AUC eventually became drug gangs, because that's where the money was. The two groups often competed over the same territory, and the bitterness between the two groups is great in some regions, especially the northwest.
