Violence erupted in Bangladesh as fundamentalist Moslems protested a court ruling that fatwas (religious edicts) could not be enforced. Two rebels on a scooter drove through a Sikh neighborhood in Kashmir and killed six Sikhs. Later in the day, Sikhs began to assemble in the major cities to demonstrate, often violently, against the killings. A curfew was imposed on the two largest cities.
