Apparently, the temple attack in Gujarat was carried out by Kashmiri rebels (the Lashkar-i-Taiba.) The two dead gunmen were identified as Pakistanis.

In Gujarat, the scene of Hindi-Moslem violence earlier in the year (that left over a thousand Moslems, and about a hundred Hindus, dead), the new police commissioner has insured that police and army reinforcements prevented any repeat of the earlier violence.
