Violence by leftist rebels in eastern India (Jharkhand) left six soldiers and four rebels dead. 

In northeast India, Assam rebels signed a peace deal with the government. The tribal rebels represent about 1.6 million of Assam's 26 million people. 

The recently elected Islamic fundamentalist government in Pakistan's Northwest Frontier Province is going the same way as the Taliban, passing laws forbidding music and other entertainments.
