In the past, the Indian navy held familiarization exercises with the American navy once every three or four years. Now this is going to be increased to three or four exercises a year. The exercises concentrate on search-and-rescue, commando and anti-submarine operations.

In Pakistan, police arrested senior al Qaeda official Yassir al-Jazeeri in Lahore. Police said that information obtained from captured al Qaeda leader Khalid 
Sheikh Mohammed, assisted them in making the latest arrest. 

In Pakistan, violence between Sunni and Shia religious extremists continued, as a senior Sunni religious scholar was attacked and killed. 

In Kashmir, police killed five rebels and recovered 670 pounds of explosives, and other bomb making materials, from a rebel hiding place.
