Kashmiri Islamic radicals have killed over 40 people while attacking the annual pilgrimage of Hindus to Hindu holy places high in the Kashmir mountains. 

Pakistan insists that it has sealed the Afghan border against  the movement of Taliban and al Qaeda fighters between the two countries. That claim is still open to question, but the introduction of troops into the tribal areas, something rarely done in the past, has upset the Pushtun tribes on both sides of the border. This has led to low level warfare between the army and the tribes.
