Maoist rebels in southern India blew up a government owned guest house in a forest preserve. The People's War Group (PWG) undertakes such acts as symbolic attacks on the market based economic system they want to replace with a centrally planned economy. Attempts to negotiate with the PWG have failed and their rebellion is now in its third decade. Some 10,000 people have died from PWG related violence.

A Pakistani army patrol got into a firefight near the Afghan border and found that they had killed two armed foreigners. A third foreigner escaped into Afghanistan.
