The Pakistani army continues to negotiate with tribal chiefs in South Waziristan, as well as fighting tribesmen who will not negotiate. In response, the pro-Taliban and al Qaeda Pushtun tribesmen have been attacking Pakistani army camps and ambushing supply convoys. There have not been a lot of these attacks, because the army will track down the clan and tribe the attackers come from and retaliate. Group punishment is an ancient practice in this part of the world.
