The Pakistani army is removing roadblocks and checkpoints in tribal areas of southwestern Pakistan. The army says it has reached an agreement with the tribes to stop supporting foreign al Qaeda members living in their midst. But none of these foreigners are being been turned over. The agreement appears to be a face saving way for the army to withdraw from a confrontation with the tribes without having accomplished their mission. While several hundred soldiers are withdrawing from road block duty, some six thousand soldiers are remaining in the area.
