The fight against Islamic terrorists in Kashmir continues, but at a lower level. There are a dozen or more casualties a week in the area.

Pakistan is reviving an old custom, and paying tribal leaders along the Afghan border, to not attack Pakistani troops. About a million dollars has been paid, most of which will enable the tribal chiefs to return about that much to Al Qaeda. The terrorist organization had paid the tribes to provide protection for al Qaeda and Taliban leaders in the area. This protection often involved fighting with Pakistani soldiers and police trying to find the terrorists or Taliban.
