In East Timor,
pre-election violence is increasing, as gangs loyal to different candidates try
to intimidate voters. The vote takes place on April 9. East Timor remains a
basket case, with little hope of economic recovery. Electing political leaders
that can reduce violence would be a start, but it's not certain that will
work.
March 27, 2007: Based on interrogations
of terrorist suspects arrested last week, another bomb cache was found,
containing 44 pounds of explosives and 20 detonators.
March 23, 2007: In the last few days,
police raids resulted in six Jemaah Islamiah (JI) terrorists arrested,
one killed and the capture of bomb making materials. At least twenty bombs,
