The results of the June 7th national elections have finally been approved by the government. Only 21 of the 48 parties with candidates in the election went along with the government approved results. But the majority parties did approve. The newly elected representatives will meet in November to select a president of the country. In Irian Jaya, a fight between soldiers and local police left several wounded. The cause was apparently because of personal differences between military and police personnel.

August 2; The government has assembled 7,000 troops in Aceh province to hunt down the separatist rebels.

August 1; Government troops have suppressed the violence in Ambon.

July 31; Rioting has ceased on the island of Batam.
